St. Paul on the Lake Catholic School

Dear Parents,
First and foremost please know that I am praying for my firsties and you, their family during this remote learning time. Prayer is our most powerful tool! Prior to us closing my kiddos were doing a wonderful job of beginning our day with a heartfelt, simple prayer at Calendar time. I’m hoping they continue that at home!
Below you will find a Weebly account which will lead you to our first grade remote learning assignments.
You will find:
1. The Cover Page - which is the Home page (with a fabulous picture of almost all of our first graders with Fr. Jim)
2. A “My Work” tab to click on to see all of the following and the links to access:
· Language Arts/Reading/Phonics
· Spelling- just a suggestion-start with Spelling Book 5 List 2 (and work backwards from there to review all lessons thus far.)
· Math-Work on any first grade material first
· Religion-journaling daily
· Science/Social Studies-Scholastic News
· Suggested learning from our Specials teachers
As a sign that you have received this email please respond by sending (emailing) me your home address. I’d like to be able to correspond with the kiddos through snail mail. I have a packet of 182 cute jokes to send to send to them to start! They were just getting into a “joke of the day” right before school was shutdown. I’d welcome snail mail from my firsties as well.
I will respond to your emails throughout our closure within 24 hours during regular business hours. Please let me know if you have any questions. Or … if the kids want to email me PLEASE let them do so! I’d love to correspond with them!
We (Mrs. Merritt and I) have and will place other resources and even stories read aloud for you to enjoy on our St. Paul First Grade Facebook page. Please check it out!

With faith, hope and love,
Dear Parents,
I hope this email finds you safe and well. It certainly has been a long week! I wanted to touch base with everyone for a few important reasons. First and foremost, I miss my first graders terribly! If they would like to Facetime me, I am open to that as I'd love to see their smiling faces. I'd especially love to see them read a book to me! (Or sing a song, or just tell me what they've been up to at home.) Please text me to arrange a time if you are interested in doing so. (I prefer we don't use my cell phone to text about assignments. Feel free to email me questions about school work. )
Secondly, at the end of this email is the link to our first grade remote learning website. On this page you will see the daily work assigned to all first graders, with instructions from us. Some of the assignments will be online and you won't need to write or print anything as we have access to their work. Some assignments will require something turned in. All instructions should be listed. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me. The remote learning website is below.
Also, please don't forget to check out our first grade Facebook page from time to time. (https://www.facebook.com/stpaulfirstgrade/)
Finally, I will be praying for all our families during this unprecidented time. If you could, in turn, pray for my family as well, I'd be forever grateful. Matthew 6: 25-27 tells us:
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?"
God has us and will get us through. Take care, and please keep in touch until we are back in school.
Linda Merritt
